Football Match Vocabulary
Kick-Off: When the referee blows the whistle to start the match.
Free Kick: A kick taken by a player from the spot where a foul occurred.
Throw In: When the ball goes out of bounds，the team who didn’t touch the ball last throws it back in.
Corner Kick: A kick taken from one of the four corner areas when the ball goes out of bounds after being last touched by the defending team.
Goal Kick: When the ball goes out of bounds after being last touched by the attacking team，the defending team kicks the ball back in from the goal area.
Penalty Kick: When a foul occurs inside the penalty area，the attacking team is awarded a free kick taken from the penalty spot.
Foul: An illegal move that results in a free kick or a penalty kick.
Offside: When an attacking player is closer to the goal than the ball and the second-last opposing player.
Yellow Card: When a player commits a foul the referee can give a yellow card as a warning.
Red Card: When a player commits a serious foul the referee can give a red card，which means the player is sent off the field.
Substitution: When a player leaves the field and is replaced by another player.
Extra Time: When the match ends with a draw，two additional periods of 15 minutes are played.
