一、satisfy的基本意思是“满足，满意” 。可指“使某人满意”，也可指“使某人的欲望、期待、条件或好奇心得到满足” 。satisfy引申可指“使人深信或确信某事” 。
二、satisfy可用作及物动词，也可用作不及物动词。用作及物动词时，接名词或代词作宾语。可用于被动结构，但一般不用于进行体。
1、Riches don't always satisfy.
财富并不能总是使人满足。
2、The result of the test satisfied the teachers.
测验结果使老师们很满意。
三、satisfy作“使相信”解时，多接以that从句充当直接宾语的双宾语。
1、You must satisfy me that your story is true.
你必须使我相信你讲的都是事实。
2、He satisfied us that he could do the work well.
他让我们相信他能把这项工作做好。
四、be satisfied还可用于系表结构，意思是“感到满意”，其后常接with引起的短语，也可接动词不定式、现在分词或that/wh-从句。
1、The police were satisfied that her death was accidental.
她的死亡属于意外事故，警方对此表示肯定。
2、She is quite satisfied that his letter has come.
她十分高兴，他来信了
